RD vs SIP
A Recurring Deposit is the debt-equivalent of a SIP — same monthly contribution discipline, but the return is fixed and the growth is predictable. Interest is compounded quarterly (most banks). Tax: interest fully taxable at slab rate.
For comparable risk, an RD at 7% vs a debt mutual fund (e.g., short-duration fund) at ~7.5% is close; the MF wins on tax efficiency for long holdings (post-Apr 2023 debt fund rules notwithstanding). For genuine wealth creation, an equity SIP at ~12% historical CAGR outperforms both — but with significantly higher volatility.
